Dinner is Severed: How to Cook a Perfect Steak in a Skillet
Don't let a piece of meat intimidate you and your ability to make perfectly crusted, juicy and lip-smackin' steak!
The grill is not the only method for cooking red meat to perfection. In fact, I prefer cooking it over the stove top, in a skillet, and not in a cast iron one either (though that would be best). I find this method to be not just quicker and easier, but honestly because I love the perfect crispy crust it creates.
Perfectly Seared Steak
You'll need:
1 - 1.5 inch steak
Salt and pepper
Olive oil
Let your meat rest at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
Generously season both sides and ends of the steak with salt and pepper.
Pour olive oil into a skillet and place over high heat. Let the pan heat up until it's screaming hot. Place the steak in the skillet and cook for 1 minute. Then, flip it over and cook for another minute. Do this once more for each side. This method is what gets a perfectly even crust around your steak.
Turn the heat down to medium and cook for another minute or two for a medium rare steak, For a more well done steak, cook for another 4 minutes; two on each side.
Let the meat rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
Enjoy!
